"On the far right, you see "Nathan's" building. Though in the book it's described as being located on Wealthy street, it's actually on the corner of Lake and Robinson, in East Grand Rapids. I was new to the area when I wrote book one, so I was confused about what street I'd seen this building on. It wasn't intentional. Of course, the street address was made up, so if you're in the mood to find the place, you'll have to be an intrepid explorer. If you notice, under "Nathan's" apartment there is a bookstore, Argos. That wasn't what first drew me to the building; in fact, it was over a year after the first draft of the book was finished that I discovered it. Nathan's shop, The Crypt, would of course be located down the fictional stairs at the front of the building, in the basement."
"This is one of two homes in East Grand Rapids that inspired Cyrus's house. In the book, it's located on a hill and has a huge fence. I think I added those in my mind because if I had a house that looked this imposing and, well, scary, I'd put a giant fence around it for sure."
"This is what Carrie and Nathan's neighborhood looks like at night, when they're most likely to be out and about."
"And this is Nathan's building at night. I realize now, looking at the outside of the building, that the apartment would actually be pretty big. But I've taken creative license. I mean, it doesn't have bay windows, either." |
