"At the Romantic Times Booklover's Convention in Texas, I felt like Cinderella. That is not an exaggeration in the slightest. I went in there just plain old me, and suddenly BAM I was like... one of the cool kids. It was definately the hand of a faery godmother touching me. That faery godmother, by the way, was Charlaine Harris, who writes the Sookie Stackhouse books. She had emailed me and asked me to speak on some panels, and that was the only reason I went to RT. And I will be eternally grateful to her for unwittingly convincing me to go."

"These are the scary-ass elevators in the hotel lobby. Yes, they're glass. Yes, the hotel is built open all the way to the thirtieth story. Yes, I was terrified. And there were no normal, non-horrifying elevators. The other set of were glass to the outside of the hotel, so you got a great view of Houston from thirty stories up (if you went up there, which I didn't)."

"This is the view of the lobby from the evil elevator. We were on the 11th floor, and I think this was taken at about the fifth. So, the night I went to a party in Mary Janice Davidson's hotel room (name drop drop) on the twenty-eighth story, my knees turned to water."

"This was my slut-o-rama costume for Ellora's Cave's Moulin Rouge party. So cool. They had their cover models out on the dance floor, dressed only in very tight pants and suspenders. And a good time was had by all. Except my husband."

"Look! It happened! It wasn't a dream (though it was a dream come true)! There's Rachel Caine, moi, and Charlaine Harris!"

"But wait, there is more coolness! That's me, Charlaine Harris and Jim "Dresden Files" Butcher. I was sitting next to him on a different panel and he played with a kazoo under the table the whole time. True story."

"This is my husband, Joe, and I all dressed up for the Faery Ball. I did that magical job on our hair and make-up. You can't see it very well, but mine stands straight back and is tinted with liquid bronzer make-up. We didn't enter the costume competition, but several people said we should have because of our make-up."

"This is me at the huge group book signing on Saturday morning. It was the first time I ever realized that people in Australia know my name, and I felt uber-famous."
